Dear Neighbors,

Apologies for the very-last minute nature of this update.  It's been about a year and Britain Woods/Farrell building Group has completed their draft environmental impact assessment regarding the newest set of apartments they want to build in our town along Little Britain Road between Old Little Britain and Wisner Ave.  Tonight the Town planning board will be hosting a public hearing to hear the public’s comments.

You can read the entire draft environmental impact assessment here:  https://dl.ep-pc.com/BritainWoods/

We will do our best to post a follow up update to tonight’s meeting on this site next week for anyone who cannot attend.  Please read below to see how you can help make a difference in our community and help us spread the word!

Rt 207-Britain Woods Development Notice of Public Hearing

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

August 1, 2024 - 7PM

Town Hall Meeting Room(1496 NY-300)

Why It Matters:

The Town of Newburgh Planning board will hear concerns from the public regarding the 11 building Britain Woods apartment complex slated for Little Britain Rd. between Old Little Britain Rd and Corwin Ct.  If you cannot make the meeting on the 1st, you can respectfully express concerns to the Town of Newburgh Planning board via phone (845.564.7804), or e-mail (planningboard@townofnewburgh.org) through Aug 10th.  You can also post a comment on our online petition which will be forwarded to the Planning Board.

You do NOT need to be a resident of the town of Newburgh in order to share a comment or attend/speak at the meeting.

Community Impact:

Traffic- the apartment complex is expected to add 500+ cars to our road when finished with only one entrance and exit currently proposed.  The new intersection will be as the road curves across from the Laborer’s Union.

Construction- The builder and property owner expect the building portion of the project to take 3 years and will likely require blasting through bedrock.

In order to manage the waste generated by residents living at the facility upon completion, a 4,000+’ forced main sewer pipe will be run down Little Britain Rd through the frontages of the homes along the water treatment facility side, and then across to Old Little Britain Rd (side opposite the Jehoviah’s witness buildings) terminating at the man hole on Unity Place.

Water- the proposed blasting and regrading could impact, weaken, and thereby interrupt the sole water line that runs from the water treatment facility on Little Britain Rd across the parcels being developed and supplies City of Newburgh residents with clean water.  Water main breaks along this road are not uncommon and have resulted in the past with city residents being issues boil water notices.

Separate note…If you have suggestions for things you’d like to see changed or improved in the Town of Newburgh or you’re concerned about recent developments, you have the unique opportunity to also summit comments to the comprehensive plan website going on now.  You do not need to be a resident of the Town to comment or make a suggestion and all feedback is welcome.
