Oppose the Introduction of Car Parking Charges in Cottingham

Oppose the Introduction of Car Parking Charges in Cottingham

The Issue

We've seen firsthand the vibrant life that echoes through our village streets. However, lately, I've noticed a worrying trend. Our beloved high street is suffering, shops are closing, and footfall is on a steady decline. It's time to halt this decline and invigorate life back into our village!

East Riding Council is currently reviewing whether to introduce car parking charges in Cottingham's council-owned car parks. This could have disastrous impacts on our community. The introduction of such charges will not only penalise our local motorists but could also discourage shoppers from visiting our village, further impacting our already struggling high street. Moreover, the possible imposition of these charges threatens to negatively impact traders and local businesses, who rely on the convenience of free parking to attract customers.

Moreover, this proposed act could lead to further parking issues, with shop-workers opting to park in nearby streets instead of paying for parking. This could create considerable congestion and parking problems in residential areas. Cottingham Labour Councillors C Cantrell, K Casson, and A Duke stand with us in opposing these charges.

We owe it to ourselves, our traders, and future generations to keep Cottingham a thriving and attractive place to live, work, and shop. We firmly say, "We oppose car-parking charges in Cottingham" and we call on the East Riding Council to reconsider this decision.
