The proposed Hidden Grove development would fundamentally change the rural character of Cedar Ridge through the rezoning of a 3.31-acre property into a mixed-use Business Park development containing commercial/light industrial units, residential apartments, parking lots, storage areas, and expanded business operations. The project includes three two-story mixed-use buildings, 15 residential units, nine commercial/light industrial units, 49 parking spaces, expanded traffic on narrow rural roads, septic system expansion, removal of a landmark oak tree and countless other majestic pines and fir trees.

Every day, I wake up and am grateful for the natural beauty of our rural community. Cedar Ridge is where my family has made our home, and where my children grew up. It is a place of deep roots, and peaceful coexistence  with the natural world. However, the looming Hidden Grove project poses a grave threat to everything we hold dear. This proposed industrial development and high density housing not only jeopardizes our community's unique character, but it poses risks to our water supply and emergency evacuation routes –  directly threatening our families' safety and well-being.

Allowing such a development would irreversibly alter the rural essence of Cedar Ridge. Our roads, designed for minimal traffic, are ill-equipped to handle the substantial increase that Hidden Grove would bring. This project would lead to congestion, especially during critical times such as wildfire evacuations, putting lives in danger. A report from the National Fire Protection Association underscores how increased traffic can severely impede timely evacuations during wildfires, a concern we cannot take lightly.

Moreover, the environmental toll of this development could be devastating. It threatens our vital local ecosystem by reducing the density of our cherished wooded areas, and poses a significant risk to our wells and groundwater from the proposed septic systems. Situated at the top of a hill, pollution from heavy use septic systems would flow directly downstream to our family's and many other's private wells which supply all of our drinking water. Our existing infrastructure is fragile and was never intended to support such a high-density population.

If we allow Hidden Grove to proceed, it could set a dangerous precedent for future rezoning, paving the way for further oversaturated developments that would erode the very essence of our community. We understand the need for development and growth, but it must be done in a way that respects the rural character and takes into account our community's current infrastructure and environmental limits. This project is not a fit for Cedar Ridge.

We call upon the decision-makers, the Planning Commission, and key stakeholders to heed the concerns of  residents. We implore you to guide development in a manner that is sustainable and preserves what we cherish most about our home.

Please help us safeguard the future of Cedar Ridge by signing this petition to oppose the Hidden Grove project and maintain the safety and integrity of our beloved community.
