As a majority of e-cigarette users who have successfully transitioned from harmful combustible tobacco cigarettes, we find ourselves facing an unexpected challenge. The proposed Tobacco Control Bill No. 4 of 2024 by the Seychelles Ministry of Health threatens to limit our choice and preference in e-cigarette flavors to only Menthol and Tobacco.

The availability and variety of flavors in e-cigarettes have been instrumental in our journey away from traditional cigarettes, which are known to cause cancer. These diverse flavors have not only made the switch easier but also offered us a sense of choice and freedom in an open market.

However, with the restrictions that this bill aims to impose, we stand on the brink of losing this essential freedom. Some among us may even feel the need to return to combustible cigarettes due to lack of flavorful alternatives.

According to a study published by Yale School Of Public Health (2018), flavored e-cigarettes play a crucial role in reducing cigarette smoking among adults by making it more appealing for smokers looking for cessation methods.

We urge all stakeholders involved - legislators, health officials, and citizens alike - to not just consider these facts but also empathize with our personal experiences as consumers trying hard not turn back towards traditional tobacco products.
