Oppose the division of Keller ISD without citizen input

The Issue

On December 19th, the Keller ISD school board of trustees discussed a plan to split the district in a closed meeting session. This violates the Texas Open Meetings Act. We, who are signing this petition want the board to recognize the wishes of both potential districts in negotiations of a split. We also would like such a decision to be finalized by a vote of the citizens within the current Keller ISD according to the state law. This state law requires a simple majority of 25% of the population to vote in order to divide a school district.

This decision will not only affect the funding of our students and the amenities they have at their disposal. This also affects the property value of all the homes on both sides of the divide. In order to divert adverse effects , a division of the district must be made that would allow both districts to retain their reputation for excellent education programs.

The next school board election is in May. We must let the board know now that the voters want their voices heard in this matter that affects all residents of KISD.
