Wall Street Development Corp Inc. has recently submitted plans to the Bellingham Ma planning board to build 156 town homes off Prospect/Lake Street in Franklin and Bellingham, Ma. This petition is in effort to stop construction from moving forward. 

If these town homes are approved to be built, the existing homes and neighborhoods in the area will be negatively affected in so many ways. Some of the oldest homes in our town are built off the Lake Street and Prospect Street area. Many Bellingham and Franklin residents have lived most of their lives in these homes. These are the same homes that will soon lose so much of their property value due to new construction being built in their backyard. Residents will be forced to face issues such as how and when our towns will address the need to update their water supply to ensure the existing homes’ water table is not affected by these new buildings. Our schools will need to add more teachers, more space and more buses. Our traffic patterns will undeniably increase.  Franklin and Bellingham will need to update roads and provide new ways around our towns.  This will be detrimental to the already existing traffic issues. The surrounding land that is the home to so much of our wildlife will be built on and nature will be disrupted. We are already seeing an increase in wildlife appearing in our yards or becoming nonexistent in their natural environments. The discussed 72+ acres of land will be demolished to add homes that will not provide any positive impact for the residents of this town. It will produce irrevocable damage to surrounding land and cost taxpayers thousands of dollars each year to provide the resources needed to support these homes. 

Just recently, Prospect St. was closed for over 10 days because the old granite culvert needed to be repaired and replaced with a large 48-inch pipe to support the current homes in the area. It is coincidental that the granite culvert failed after the addition of the 5+ new homes recently built on Prospect Street. It would not be logical or beneficial to add 156 more homes in this exact area when we are already struggling to support what is pre-existing.

Lastly, so many of us live in this town because of the community feel. Many of us enjoy doing things such as visiting Silver Lake. Overpopulating our town will severely disrupt our community and negatively impact the town. It will result in overcrowding and the loss of many lakes, ponds and recreation areas that we all love to visit. Although it may have monetary benefits for the builders and commercial operations, it has no benefits for the residents of our towns. We encourage you to sign this petition to stop the building of the 156 purposed town homes off Prospect/Lake St. in Franklin and Bellingham, Ma.
