Oppose the comprehensive plan amendment and rezoning in our community
The Issue
Our cherished community, located near 801 S. Mc Coll Road in Texas, is facing a significant challenge that could impact our quality of life. As members of this community, we have repeatedly voiced our opposition to the proposed rezoning of 1,200 acres from auto urban uses to multi-family residential units (City of Edinburg case # rezone 2026-0332). This petition specifically addresses the comprehensive plan amendment and rezoning requests backed by Melden & Hunt, which threaten to disrupt the delicate balance of our neighborhood.
We have a vibrant community composed primarily of single-family subdivisions. Unfortunately, over the years, our area has already seen significant growth in apartment complexes, leading to spikes in traffic congestion, increased crime rates, and burgeoning school enrollments. These changes have strained our resources without any corresponding updates to our existing infrastructure to adequately support the new demands.
The introduction of more multi-family units, as proposed, will only serve to exacerbate these issues. Our roads, schools, and community facilities are already overburdened, and additional development would only compound these problems. Our community's voice is clear: there is no need for additional multi-family dwellings in our area. We believe that responsible urban planning should prioritize the sustainability and well-being of existing residents over unchecked development.
We urge the planning authorities to listen to the concerns of their constituents and to reject the comprehensive plan amendment and rezoning requests. Instead, we call for a thorough assessment of the current infrastructure and resources to ensure they meet the demands of the area's existing population without endangering the quality of life.
We are not against development, but we strongly advocate for sensible, sustainable growth that respects and maintains the integrity of our neighborhood. Our community deserves thoughtful consideration in these planning decisions.
Please join us in protecting our community by signing this petition. Help us send a strong message that the needs and safety of residents should always come first. Together, we can make our voices heard and steer development in a direction that benefits everyone involved.
