Oppose the application to rezone the property at 136th St. and Keystone from R-1 to PUD.

Beazer Homes has petitioned the Carmel Plan Commission to rezone the 59-acre property located at the NE corner of 136th Street and Keystone Avenue (just east of the roundabout at Keystone) from R-1 to a Planned Unit Development (PUD).  Beazer's rezoning petition will allow it to change the property from its long standing designation as single family detached residential to a higher density project including duplexes.  Part of Beazer's master plan for the property includes 160+ mixed duplex and ranch dwellings.  

Beazer's plan also includes a left turn (heading eastbound) into the development at the tip of the roundabout on the east side of Keystone.  This roundabout is one of the busiest in Carmel due to the volume caused in part by the traffic to and from Carmel High School.  Carmel acknowledged the traffic issues at this location in a press release earlier this year when it installed a light at the roundabout stating "those who travel through this area on school days are aware of the backups that occur."  Allowing the 59-acres parcel to be rezoned to a PUD and providing for a left turn at the 136th Street and Keystone Avenue roundabout will only add to the already existing traffic congestion.

Please sign this online petition and tell our Carmel Plan Commission and City Council to deny Beazer's rezoning application from R-1 to PUD.  The next Carmel Plan Commission Committee meeting is September 5 at 6PM at City Hall.  Make your voices and opinions heard and let our public representatives know that the citizens of Carmel want this property to remain zoned at R-1.
