The Issue
Living on Bagley Road for the past decade, I've witnessed firsthand how our once quiet residential street has increasingly borne the brunt of Forsyth County's traffic woes. The daily commute has transformed Bagley Road, a one-lane residential artery, into a congested thoroughfare. Adding to this strain, a proposed rezoning of 5 acres to CBD and 13.4 acres to M1 at the corner of Peachtree Parkway and Bagley Road threatens to exacerbate these issues, further compromising the safety and quality of life that our community cherishes.
Rezoning Applications ZA4266 and ZA4267 have raised significant concerns among local residents, primarily due to potential zoning conflicts and violations that could arise. The proposed change is poised to alter the character of our neighborhood, introducing structures or businesses not in harmony with our existing residential landscape. This change could increase traffic, noise, pollution, and disrupt the tranquility of our community.
Traffic concerns are paramount. Bagley Road is not equipped to handle additional traffic that a rezoning could attract. With existing congestion, the resident safety, especially for pedestrians and school children, is at risk. There is an urgent need for thorough traffic studies and evaluations of potential impact before any zoning decisions are made.
The proposed rezoning also poses environmental concerns. Development on this scale can lead to increased runoff, affecting local waterways and green spaces. Protection of our natural environment and preservation of green spaces should remain a priority.
Forsyth County has a responsibility to its residents to preserve the character and safety of its neighborhoods.
