Oppose Rezoning of 110 N Harbor Dr, Beaufort, NC for RV Park Development
The Issue
I, like many others, have deep personal concerns about the proposed rezoning of 110 N Harbor Drive in Beaufort, North Carolina, for the purpose of developing an RV or trailer park. Beyond the prospect of drastically changing the character and feel of our beloved harbor area, there are pressing environmental issues at stake. There are very real, well-grounded fears about potential septic concerns, as well as the potential harm to the local marshes during our prevalent flooding events, not to mention during hurricanes.
The proposed RV park would reportedly rely on a peat moss system. In flood conditions, such a septic system could prove disastrous for the surrounding marsh and river ecosystem. Likewise, the proposal to bring in vast amounts of backfill to create the planned 70 lots in the floodplain could have devastating impacts on local wildlife and local homeowners. Our community is rich with diverse fauna. The importance of maintaining this biodiversity cannot be overstated.
The push to rezone 110 N Harbor Dr. is not just a community issue—it involves the preservation of our local environment, the protection of our local wildlife, and the sustainability of our way of life. Join me in standing against the rezoning of 110 N Harbor Dr. Raise your voices for our community, for our environment, and for our wildlife. Please, sign this petition today.
