The Issue

Strongsville, Ohio is our home, a place where we cherish the tranquility, the lush green spaces, and the vibrant community. However, this very community, this bedrock of peace and environment-friendly living, is under threat. A proposal is in the works to rezone 19156 Pearl Road from Public Facilities to General Business (Ordinance No. 2025-128) to pave the way for a Meijer grocery store development. While business growth is generally welcome, this particular development is not what Strongsville needs.

Firstly, the increased traffic, noise, and pollution that come with large retail developments are inevitable. Pearl Road, already a busy thoroughfare, will struggle under the burden of additional traffic. The peaceful neighborhoods around it will no longer enjoy the calm they currently do, as the persistent noise from the heavy traffic becomes a part of our daily experience.

Moreover, this project endangers our local environment, threatening the very essence of Strongsville. The local wildlife, already strained by ongoing urban development, will face further risks. The green spaces, which serve as the lungs of our community, are at stake. Add to this the risk of potential flooding exacerbated by increased impervious surfaces, and it's clear that the environmental cost is too high.

Economic factors also come into play. Another grocery store will not only add to the clutter but threatens the existence of existing small businesses. Strongsville has a sufficient number of grocery stores efficiently serving its residents. Another store would lead to increased competition, potentially leading to more store closures and loss of local jobs.

The residents of Strongsville deserve transparent, thoughtful, and environmentally sound decision-making from our city planners. The rezoning of 19156 Pearl Road at the bottom of the Boston Road hill in front of Fieldstone Preserve is NOT in the best interest of our community. Let's make our voices heard and oppose this rezoning proposal. Sign this petition to protect our environment, our community, and our way of life. Together, we can make a difference in safeguarding the essence of Strongsville for ourselves and future generations. Please sign and share this petition widely to ensure a sustainable future for our beloved city.
