Oppose Quiet Yards Greenwich Leaf Blower Ban

Oppose Quiet Yards Greenwich Leaf Blower Ban
The Issue
This petition is to oppose the Quiet Yards Greenwich ordinance they are proposing the the Greenwich RTM. There are some key factors as to why we do NOT think their proposal should be adopted by any board in Greenwich at this current time.
- Cost of equipment - The cost of these products is exceptionally higher then a gas blower. Electric blowers are so expensive in some cases 3x+ the cost of a normal gas blower. On top of that the cost of batteries to operate these machines could tack on thousands more. Because of this home owners will see INCREASED LABOR RATES and longer working times on their property.
- Maintenance - There is no way to maintain these blowers. On many occasions when these blowers break we are told to bring them to the nearest repair shop, located in Bedford Hills up to 45 minutes away. When these machines break there's no way for a "quick repair" therefore having to purchase even more equipment to keep your company going.
- Charging - majority of landscape companies do NOT have electricity where they park their trucks. On top of that most don't have indoor storage / sheds etc. There is no easy way to charge these batteries and most take over an hour to charge which would mean sitting at clients houses using their power to charge batteries. Not only is this unprofessional as a landscaper it is also timely. Who will pay for the labor of standing around waiting for batteries to charge?
- Fires and health - Not only does LIO mining create insane amount of pollution but where do these batteries go when their life span is over? Landfill? Furthermore, LIO battery fires are one of the leading cause of fires currently in the USA. LIO fires are created from damaged batteries. If anyone has seen the inside of landscaping trailers there's equipment all over bouncing around during transit which is just a ticking time bomb for a fire.
- Technology - Currently there is no electric blower that is equal to a gas blower in power or efficiency. It will take some more time before there is the "Tesla" of leaf blowers in the landscape market. The current battery operated leaf blowers are also supper heavy. Once that time comes I could assure you landscapers will adapt to make changes.
We ask you to sign this petition to put any electric leaf blower ordinance on hold for at least 365 days to allow technology to improve as well as allow the time for more research.
Thank you,
Greenwich Grounds Keepers
