The Issue

I am reaching out to my fellow citizens of the Town of Norwood and the surrounding southern Stanly County community to express our collective opposition to the proposed subdivision set to be developed along Hwy 52 to Riverview Road and South Kendall Street. This petition is very personal and close to my heart because I understand the unique beauty and ecological significance of our area—the Rocky River, which is nearby, serves as a vital wildlife refuge.

The proposed development site lies in a sensitive ecological zone that many of us cherish dearly. The Rocky River and its surrounding areas are home to diverse wildlife species that may not survive once construction begins, potentially disrupting the delicate ecological balance. This area's natural beauty and tranquility are irreplaceable and form part of our community’s identity and heritage.

Moreover, the Town of Norwood lacks the necessary infrastructure to support such a large influx of residents. Building a subdivision that accommodates 250 multi and single-family homes would undoubtedly strain our existing infrastructure, including roads, schools, and emergency services. The increase in traffic will potentially lead to safety issues and congestion on Hwy 52 and surrounding streets. Our small-town charm and quality of life are at risk of being overwhelmed by the scale of this development.

We are not against progress, but it should be approached with respect for the environment and the existing community infrastructure. We urge the local government to consider alternatives or modifications to this plan that are more in line with sustainable growth and preservation of our beloved natural areas.

I invite you all to support this cause by signing this petition. Together, we can make our voices heard and protect our community's environmental and infrastructural integrity. Sign this petition and help preserve the Town of Norwood for current and future generations.
