Councilmember Kettle describes the process for considering the Comprehensive Plan as well as his position on issues in his newsletter sent earlier this week.

The permanent legislation the Seattle City Council is now considering will allow density and setbacks well in excess of what state law requires. Of note, amendments to the draft legislation are due today, Monday, July 14, with a full Council vote anticipated by the end of September.

Although actual zoning of lots is not being considered now, all other aspects of density like building heights, set backs, incentives for stacked flats (apartments/condos), and density around transit corridors are under review. If you want a visual view of how much lot density is occurring under interim legislation approved in June, 2025, you can see two houses under construction on the south side of Armour St, between 8th and 9th Ave W.

A letter to CM Kettle expressing your opinion is timely now. Whatever you choose to focus on, please mention your strong support for protecting the Queen Anne Blvd and its magnificent tree canopy and maintaining Neighborhood Residential (NR) zoning in our area. You can write to Bob Kettle at Robert.kettle@seattle.gov (copy his Chief of Staff, Steve Smith, on your note. Steve.smith@seattle.gov).
