The Issue

My dogs and I have been coming to the Oakhurst Dog Park for years, and over this time, it has become a beloved part of our daily lives. Our friends and their four-legged companions have joined us, creating a vibrant community that cherishes the space. It's not just a dog park to us—it's a haven, an Audubon nature preserve teeming with life and beauty, where dogs play, and the sounds of laughter blend harmoniously with the tranquility of nature.

Now, the Oakhurst Park Master Plan threatens to take this cherished space away, proposing only a small fraction will remain a dog park as well nature and tree removal in favor of artificial turf and a softball practice area. This change is not only impractical, but also disregards the significance of a green space that dog owners use every day. It will destroy the integrity of this preserve, shattering a delicate ecosystem where many birds and unique species find refuge.

Consider the value this dog park brings: a retreat for city-dwellers and their pets, a hub for community bonding, and an ecological haven all in one. Replacing it with twice-a-week softball practices couldn't possibly match the daily joy and environmental importance it serves.

We need to take action to preserve the Oakhurst Dog Park and the surrounding nature for ourselves and for future generations. We urge city planners and decision-makers to reconsider their plans and commit to finding a solution that preserves all of the dog park, the trees, and the area that birds and other critters call home.

Join us in opposing the Oakhurst Park Master Plan. Stand up for our community, our environment, and our beloved dog park. Sign this petition today to show your support and voice your opposition to this plan that risks losing far more than it could ever gain.
