Oppose Manitoba Hydro new Property Line and Public Right of way of electrical installation
The Issue
On October 24 2022 Manitoba Hydro issued a new Code rule stating that you cannot cross property lines or public right of ways with electrical installations.
In layman terms this means that if anyone has a electrical installation on a section of land they cannot cross a public right of way or property line to connect a different building, pivot etc, etc. You have to have a new electrical service brought into that section of land, which adds unnecessary cost to infrastructure projects and has no real tangible benefit.
We believe this is a Crown corporation overreach. This rule adds unnecessary cost to develop properties. Enforcement is not being enforced elsewhere to our knowledge in Canada. Previous to this rule Municipality approved was needed to cross public right of way or property Lines and was granted as a rule.
We believe this new code amendment should be repealed by Manitoba Hydro as it doesn't affect public safety, and is also an unnecessary added capital cost of an infrastructure project in the province of Manitoba.
