Oppose Magnussen Toyota Dealership Relocation to Old Middlefield Way

The Issue

We are residents of a small community located near Old Middlefield Way. A new development proposal seeks to relocate the nearby Magnussen Toyota Car Dealership directly next to our homes.

We oppose the development at 2319 Old Middlefield Way in its current form. The project seeks to relocate the Magnussen Toyota Dealership and construct a new two-story, 41,580 square foot dealership with associated auto repair garage and parts shop and exposed parking on the second level. The project will involve cutting down 24 Heritage Trees, while also seeking an exemption from the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) review process.

The new project will harm and disrupt the character of the neighborhood, where families with children regularly walk and bike. The building will be directly visible from most of the residences in our community, as well as from other residences over a block away.

Since 2013, the City of Mountain View has maintained an open action to re-zone the lots in question by 2023, which would have prevented the currently proposed project from moving forward. As of 2023 year-end, no action was taken and the project was proposed. The project as proposed violates many of the City's stated development goals, outlined in its General Plan.

We seek to provide input on the design of the new project to ensure that it cannot proceed until resident concerns about impact to the neighborhood are substantially and sufficiently addressed, with plans clearly communicated to the community in advance, and in good faith.
