Oppose LWSD's new schedule! Join the team against the routine!
The Issue
Entering the wrong class. Sitting down at the wrong lunch. Feeling like your daily routine needs so much memorization that it's impossible to relax and enjoy yourself while you're at school.
If you're reading this, chances are these things have already happened to you. We live in one of the wealthiest public districts in the nation. Lake Wahington School district is renowned for its special education system, diversity, state-of-the-art architecture and 93% graduation rate. But as they turned their attention toward funding, structure renovation, and improving students' overall performance, they failed to realize one major flaw in their 2025 agenda. Our new schedule isn't working.
You might argue, graduation percentages, diversity rates, and ensuring, that low-income students get the support they need is far more important than having a daily routine we love. And you are right, but that's no excuse, ignore the sheer inconvenience of our schedule.
Not a single student I have mentioned this schedule to, has shown approval to the new routine. And it's not just students, its teachers and staff as well. When I talked to my counselor about my annoyance with my day-to-day routine, she totally agreed with me and said "We tried to tell them, it didn't work but they wouldn't, listen. They never do. We have to let them know what students think.",
Our new schedule simply does not work, and it's nearly impossible to memories. The fact that there are color coded charts on the wall of every classroom, hallway, pod, cafeteria, and library proves that. Even my physics teacher has trouble memorizing it, and he could be building telescopes for Nasa, if he were determined to do so. Our new schedule is inefficient. We deserve a convenient efficient, and easy to memorize schedule.
Of course, ending the new schedule won't be easy but it isn't impossible either. We can't just make a new schedule and then change it. There are routines that need to be redistributed. Employe schedules that need to be reorganized, special requirements that need to be met, and a date that needs to get picked for the schedule to switch.
But I know it will be worth it, because as a Senior I'd hate to have to see all the Freshman in my high school go through another 3 years of our district's antics. Join, the team, against the routine, sigh here to make Dr. Jon Holman and the rest of the board, create a reasonable efficient and easy to navigate schedule
