The Rio Grande Valley has been the ancestral home to many Tribes in Texas. Not only are there sacred sites that include distinct ceremonies, but it is home to many sacred and endangered animals such as the Ocelotl and the Jaguarundi that many of the indigenous tribes hold dear. This is also the home to the fast declining peyote cacti, which is central to many southern tribe's and the Native American Church's ceremony.

The oil industry has been pushing the industrial buildout of LNG on the Mexican American border in Texas, which ruins the natural balance of the ecosystem and poisons the land, water and air.

As Indigenous Peoples, we are taught to honor and protect the Earth. In recent events, the Chairman of the Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas has come out in support of LNG in the Valley. This is in opposition to what our values are as Indigenous stewards of the Land.
