Respected Chancellor, Oxford University and the members of the Election Committee

Subject: Opposition to Imran Khan’s Candidacy for Chancellor of Oxford

I am writing on behalf of the Association of American Pakistani Physicians for Justice & Democracy (APPJD) to formally express our opposition to the candidacy of Mr. Imran Khan for the position of Chancellor at Oxford University. We wish to highlight several reasons why he is not qualified for this position. To begin with, his announcement to run for the elections for the chancellorship of Oxford University is a political move and not a serious desire to serve in this capacity. His past tenure as Vice Chancellor of Bradford University was marred with controversy. He didn't make himself available to attend the convocation and graduation ceremony.

In addition to the above, there are many other highly serious concerns about his political career, legal troubles, and lapses of judgment in many areas of his personal and political life that should disqualify him from running in the elections for the chancellor of Oxford University.

Support for Extremism:
Taliban Advocacy: Mr. Khan has publicly supported the move for the Taliban to establish an office in Pakistan, despite their history of severe human rights violations and security risks to Pakistan.
Endorsement of Extremist Ideology: His characterization of the Taliban as "freedom fighters" and his celebratory remarks about their return to power are deeply troubling and incongruent with the values of tolerance and human rights upheld by Oxford University.
Controversial Remarks on Osama bin Laden: Mr. Khan’s reference to bin Laden as a "shaheed" (martyr) in a speech further demonstrates a concerning alignment with extremist perspectives.
Misogynistic Statements:
Mr. Khan has made statements attributing rape to women’s clothing choices, perpetuating harmful stereotypes, and deflecting responsibility from perpetrators to victims. Such views are antithetical to the principles of equality and respect that Oxford stands for.
Personal Integrity Issues:
Corruption Conviction: His recent conviction in the Toshakhana case for the illegal sale of state gifts reflects poorly on his commitment to ethical conduct.
Paternity Controversy: His refusal to acknowledge his daughter, Tyrian White, in official documents raises questions about his integrity and accountability.
Sex Scandal and Harassment:
Allegations of misconduct and the subsequent harassment of his accuser by his political party’s supporters suggest a troubling disregard for ethical behavior and respect for individuals.
His record as a Prime minister is tarnished because of serious human rights abuses, censorship, disappearance of political opponents, and violence against religious minorities.

Disregard of the Constitution

The courts declared the steps taken by Imran Khan to thwart the vote of No Confidence against him as unconstitutional. He refused to accept the results of a legitimate vote of no confidence against him and forced the resignations of the members of the parliament of his party.

Oxford University is renowned for its commitment to leadership, integrity, and human rights. Given the serious concerns outlined above, we, respectfully urge the election committee to reconsider Mr. Khan’s candidacy. The individual chosen for this prestigious position must align with the university's values and standards.

Thank you for considering our perspective on this matter.

Yours sincerely,

Electronically signed

Dr. Muhammad Ashrad Toor
