Oppose hundreds of pheasants raised to be shot for entertainment near Ludlow

The Issue

To the Mayor of Ludlow,  Beverley Waited

I was cycling along a country road in Herefordshire, 11 minutes by car from Ludlow, when I bumped into an extraordinary field filled with hundreds of male and female young pheasants, happily pecking like hens do. I had never seen such a peaceful and beautiful animal in hundreds , so close and only half worried of my presence. As I gazed at this amazing abnormality, I remembered an article that I had read about Hunting and suddenly, the penny dropped. These peaceful, innocent young pheasants had been raised for shooting. Still unwilling to believe it, I went on the estate website (downtonestate.com) and saw that they clearly advertised shooting sessions.Life is definitely not priceless for Downton estate as, for £45, you can shoot ONE pheasant. Unfortunately, this is not what they would claim is the price for a life, but rather a price to make profit from a life.

Raising and shooting raised pheasants for entertainement is barbaric. Shooting is barbaric. Shooters are barbaric. Let's value the good parts of traditions and end the barbaric part of them.
