I have created this petition against the proposed housing project at 13916 Polk Street in Sylmar, CA, and I am deeply concerned about the negative impacts it will have on our neighborhood. This project threatens not only the privacy and the safety of our community but also the unique character and tranquility that we cherish in our area.

The proposed development plans include a towering 44-foot tall building that will severely infringe on the privacy of neighboring homes. As someone who values the peace and safety of my residence, the thought of a four-story structure looming over my yard is deeply disturbing. The additional height also raises concerns about noise and light pollution, which will directly affect not just my household but those of my neighbors.

The neighborhood is already enduring the pressures of heavy traffic and limited parking, and this project aims to add more strain. The influx of residents and vehicles will exacerbate local traffic congestion and endanger pedestrians, cyclists, and especially equestrian traffic on our shared sidewalks. These streets, vital for safe evacuation during emergencies in our high-risk fire area, should not be subjected to additional burden without adequate planning.

Additionally, the project fails to provide essential street improvements necessary for emergency vehicles and makes no provision for watershed infrastructure. It completely eliminates all building setbacks, further threatening our community’s safety and aesthetic.

Our property values are projected to fall as a result of this development, due to diminished appeal and increased local crime rates associated with densely packed buildings and insufficient amenities. Moreover, the location is far removed from public services, increasing the challenge for new occupants to integrate smoothly into our community.

I am urging our community members and local authorities to stand against this proposal that does not fit our neighborhood.
