Oppose HB 5101 - Protect Public Education Funding in Florida

The Issue

Florida House Bill 5101 would cut funding for IB, AP, Cambridge, and Dual Enrollment classes-classes that have opened doors for thousands of students across the state. These college-level courses provide a head start, especially to immigrant and low-income families. As a student in both IB and AP programs, I’ve seen how these classes challenge us, inspire us, and prepare us for life beyond high school. They give students like me a real shot at college, scholarships, and a future filled with purpose.

If HB 5101 passes, Florida will be taking away possibilities for learning. As funds are removed from these programs, fewer students will be able to take advanced courses, get a jump start on college credit, or learn about what they are most interested in. For others, it will mean the difference between college and no college, between finding one's calling or falling behind. These initiatives are critical to closing achievement gaps and creating a more skilled, more competitive Florida.

We can't wait. The future of our students-and the future of Florida-is today in your hands. As someone who has been directly helped by these programs myself, I am asking you now to act now. Sign this petition against HB 5101 and stand for the thousands of students who need the same chance at a good future. We can all unite to save these valuable paths of education and keep them open for generations to come.
