Oppose Extensive Parking Regulations in River Oaks
The Issue
A proposed parking change by the city will impact all residents of River Oaks. They are proposing no parking in either of the cul-de-sacs and restricting parking to one side in the rest of the subdivision.
There are 66 homes in this subdivision. Many homes have multiple cars & utilize street parking directly in front of their homes. If this new regulation is allowed to pass & you live in either cul-de-sac, you will not be able to park on the street at all in those areas. In addition, it could result in regular parking in front of your home by neighbors, visitors and contractors. Our streets have also become the nearest on-street parking for overflow from the nearby apartments, adding the total number of parked cars in our subdivision.
The city's position: "there is not sufficient room for larger vehicles to navigate around the islands in the cul de sacs when vehicles are parked on the street. "
Our position: Fire trucks & larger vehicles have been using the cul-de-sacs for 30 years. We propose applying the same restrictions from the upper cul-de-sac to the lower cul-de-sac.
- No Parking, 6 am to 5 pm Mon - Fri,
- No parking on one side of the street (of the cul-de-sac) Mon-Fri.
What to do next?
- Sign this petition to urge the city to only apply the restrictions in the lower cul-de-sac that we have in the upper cul-de-sac.
- Attend the November 13th Community Development Committee Meeting where this will be proposed to voice your opposition.
Notice from our Board of Directors:
The City of Warrenville is proposing major parking changes for all on-street parking in River Oaks. They are recommending that parking in the subdivision be limited to only one side of both River Oaks Drive and Ridge Drive.
This recommendation comes after a request that the lower cul-de-sac of River Oaks Drive have the same parking restrictions that the upper cul-de-sac on Ridge has that allows for school buses to come into the subdivision during weekday school hours.
Instead of simply applying the same restrictions to both cul-de-sacs, the City is proposing severely limiting on-street parking in the whole subdivision.
