We, the undersigned Canadian citizens and supporters of civil liberties, firmly oppose the Crown prosecutor's recommendation for a two-year prison sentence and the seizure of private property in the case against two of the Freedom Convoy organizers.

WHEREAS:

The Crown prosecutor has recommended a two-year incarceration period for peaceful protest activities;

The Crown is seeking the unprecedented seizure and destruction/auction of a personal vehicle that is not only of significant historical and personal value, but also serves as the primary means of livelihood for its owner, Chris Barber;

These proposed penalties appear disproportionate to the nature of the alleged offenses;

Such severe penalties risk creating a chilling effect on Canadians' willingness to exercise their democratic rights of assembly and expression;

The seizure of personal property with deep sentimental value and means of livelihood constitutes punishment that extends beyond reasonable legal consequences.

THEREFORE:

We, the undersigned, respectfully call upon:

The presiding judge to reject the Crown's excessive sentencing recommendations;

The Ministry of Justice to review the proportionality of the prosecution's approach in this case;

All relevant authorities to affirm the protected status of peaceful protest in Canadian society;

Our elected representatives to ensure that our justice system is not used as a tool to discourage legitimate political expression and the pursuit of intimidation.

We believe that a just and democratic Canada must protect the rights of citizens to peaceful assembly and expression, even when those expressions challenge government policies or positions.
