Oppose Early School Timings and Immediate Online Classes Amidst Heat Wave

The Issue

We, the concerned parents, students, and citizens of Jammu and Kashmir, strongly oppose the recent government order mandating school start time at 7:30 AM, effective from July 8, 2025.

This change requires children to wake up as early as 5:30 AM to reach school on time. We raise the following serious concerns:

Transportation Challenges: Many routes, especially in rural and remote areas, lack adequate transport facilities at such early hours. This puts children’s safety and punctuality at risk.
Online Classes Immediately After School: The order mandates online classes right after school dismissal. This creates undue strain on children who have no time to rest or refresh, affecting their health and learning capacity.
Digital Divide: Children from economically disadvantaged families often lack access to mobile phones or reliable internet, especially when parents are away for work. This denies them equal opportunity to participate in online education.
Health Risks Due to Heat Wave: The current extreme heat wave conditions make early morning travel and extended study hours hazardous for children’s health.
Our Demands:

Extend the summer break until the heat wave subsides to safeguard children’s health and well-being.
If an extension is not possible, postpone the implementation of the early school timing by at least 10 days.
Provide safe and reliable transport options for students traveling from remote areas during early hours.
Reconsider the policy of scheduling online classes immediately after school hours to allow children adequate rest.
Ensure equitable access to online education by facilitating devices or community learning centers for underprivileged students.
We urge the government to prioritize the safety, health, and educational equity of our children by reconsidering this order promptly.

Sign this petition to support our cause and protect our children’s rights to a safe and fair learning environment.
