The Issue

A permit is currently under review for a double concrete batch plant near the College Mound water tower in Kaufman County (TCEQ Permit No. 184603).

The proposed facility would bring industrial activity into our rural community, near homes, farms, the College Mound United Methodist Church and cemetery, and land that families have cared for generations.

Our best chance to fight this proposed plant is through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Even more important than signing this petition, please submit a comment directly to TCEQ using Permit Number : 184603 (see link below).  In your comment, talk about your personal concern but also make sure you mention your concerns about air quality and health, and ask TCEQ to hold a public meeting. Every individual comment can help immensely:

We are deeply concerned about the potential impacts on:

Air quality & health — Dust and fine particulate pollution from concrete production and truck traffic can worsen asthma and respiratory problems and increase cardiovascular and respiratory health risks.
Property values — An industrial facility would negatively affect nearby homes, farms, and property values.
Traffic & road safety — More heavy trucks traveling on rural roads not designed for industrial traffic.
Noise & peace and quiet — Industrial operations and truck traffic could disrupt the quiet character of College Mound.
Land, water & wildlife — Potential impacts on nearby land, ponds, waterways, vegetation, and wildlife habitat.
Our rural way of life — Industrial development could permanently change the character of College Mound and open the door to more industrial projects like this.

The effects of industrial development can extend well beyond a property line and affect the broader community.

We are asking TCEQ and our elected officials to listen to the people who live here, carefully examine the potential impacts of this project, and protect the health, safety, environment, property, and rural character of College Mound.

Please sign this petition to oppose the proposed concrete batch plant and help make sure our community’s voice is heard.
