Oppose Development
Oppose Development
The Issue
Overview:
A 44-unit, 3-story townhouse development is proposed. This massive project on only 2 acres of land falls under Connecticut's 8-30g affordable housing statute, which bypasses our local planning and zoning laws - making it extremely difficult to stop. The proposed new housing development threatens to harm the environment, have detrimental effects on our community, and jeopardize the overall quality of life we all enjoy in our neighborhood.
Why You Should Be Concerned:
Traffic & Safety Concerns - With 44 new units, traffic congestion will increase dramatically and increase safety risks for pedestrians, bikers, and children.
Environmental Impact - Complete clear-cutting of all trees on the property will destroy vital habitats for local wildlife and negatively impact our community's green space.
Stormwater Runoff - This project will significantly increase stormwater runoff in an area already prone to flooding. The site is near the Wepawaug River which empties into Milford Harbor increasing the risk of contamination.
Light Pollution - This project will bring bright lights to the area, impacting the peaceful, natural ambiance of our neighborhood.
Snow Stockpiling - The development plan lacks a clear solution for managing snow, which will worsen drainage and chemicals will adversely affect plants and wildlife.
Help Protect Our Neighborhood:
We implore our local authorities to consider these concerns and urge the Inland Wetlands Agency to vote against this proposal. Sign this petition to join us in opposing the proposed new housing development in our neighborhood. The future of our community depends on it.
