Oppose Irresponsible Plan for Massive Housing Development at Hitchin's Highover Farm

Oppose Irresponsible Plan for Massive Housing Development at Hitchin's Highover Farm
The Issue
On Thursday 12th October councillors voted 7-3 in favour of greenlighting the development at Highover Farm. It is terrible news for Hitchin, Letchworth and the surrounding villages. But this is not the end of the story, our campaign continues, so please sign the petition if you haven't already.
Please read the two recent updates at the bottom of the page for more.
On Thursday on October 12th 2023 North Herts District Council councillors vote on whether to accept the current plan put forward by developers to build 700 new homes on the Highover Farm site on the edge of Hitchin.
If it goes ahead this will be Hitchin's biggest new housing development in decades and will bring Hitchin’s already congested roads to gridlock.
Please watch the videos which outline these issues and then take this last chance to sign the petition and have your say before it's too late.
You support does make a difference!
· In July, thanks to community opposition and 900 signatures on this petition, councillors voted to defer a decision on granting permission
· In September, after the community criticised the out-of-date and misleading road traffic data being presented to support this development, the council finally conducted a new traffic survey – though the results of this survery are still to be made public!
Now we want councillors to vote to reject this planning application all together.
If this means something to you please sign and share.
If you want another way to show your opposition you can attend the planning meeting on Thursday. You will not be able to speak but your presence would provide further evidence of the strength of opposition there is within the community to this development. And that can only help.
The meeting is being held at 7.30pm at Council Offices, Gernon Rd, Letchworth Garden City SG6 3JF
The Story So Far
On July 6th, councillors voted to defer the decision on planning permission for this development. You can watch the vote in the video below, the discussion of the Highover Farm development starts at 40'30.
This is an evolving campaign and we will be updating this site with any new developments.
