Oppose commercial fishing from overtaking residential Stampers Bay
The Issue
The beloved area of Stampers Bay, a haven for residents and recreational enthusiasts, is under a significant threat. A commercial fishery dock proposal has been put forward, potentially risking the tranquility and safety of our cherished environment. As guardians of this residential and recreational space, we are deeply concerned about the potential hazards this commercial activity may introduce into our community. Statistics indicate that commercial docks could increase the risk of water-related accidents by up to 65% (source: National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association). Note that many families use this area of the of the river to pull their young children in tubes and teach them to wake board and ski. Once turned into a industrial site, this activity would no longer be possible. Furthermore, this construction and dredging could disrupt aquatic life, causing ecological imbalance and the potential loss of local species. We urge the relevant authorities to consider these damaging implications and renounce the proposed construction of the commercial fishery dock in Stampers Bay. Let's protect our home and preserve the essence of Stampers Bay. Please sign this petition against the proposed commercial fishery dock.
Below is a concept drawing of what the proposed dock would look like. Note that this would allow large fishing vessels to dock, discharge bilge waste and fish byproducts, dredging and other contamination into Stampers Bay. Also note that the area would be prepared for large transport trucks. These vehicles would be using the surrounding roads for transportation of products.
We do not want this industrial site in the Stampers Bay area.
