Oppose CITES permits allowing people to bring ivory into Singapore.
The Issue
We are very passionate about saving animals. Elephants are one of the most heavily hunted animals on the planet. 55 elephants are killed a day for their valuable tusks. Their tusks are made of a prized material called ivory.
An activist I know recently raised a lot of money to protect a young and happy elephant from being sold to a circus or be killed. I do not want to see this happen to any other elephant. I have seen videos of these poor and shaken elephants and I am much too scared to see these horrid scenes in person.
Despite Singapore's dedication to stopping the animal trade, the current laws in Singapore to stop ivory trade are not completely secure. You can still bring ivory into the country if you have a CITES permit.
Singapore may be a small country, but it is a major port. Elephants could go extinct by 2040 if we don't act now.
