The Issue

I am writing this petition with a deep concern for how the proposed D155 Softball Co-op Structure 2027 will impact our local school sports teams and, more importantly, our young athletes. Having a vibrant and competitive softball environment in our schools is crucial, not only for the development of skills but also for the personal growth and confidence of many students.

The proposal to merge teams into a co-op roster risks doing more harm than good. By centralizing players into a single roster, we may unintentionally stifle the opportunities for many girls who might get lost in the shuffle of a larger team structure. When softball teams are kept independent and maintained within their individual schools, it ensures more students receive personalized attention and have greater opportunities to participate in games, practices, and receive one-on-one coaching.

Keeping teams independent provides a nurturing environment where friendships flourish, and each student's contribution is valued. It encourages a sense of pride and school spirit that can be diluted when teams are blended across schools.

Moreover, smaller, independent teams present a realistic chance for students to take on leadership roles, such as captains, which is essential in building self-esteem and harnessing teamwork and leadership skills that will benefit them in future endeavors.

It is vital that we consider what is truly in the best interest of our athletes. A co-op might promise better resources and visibility, but at what cost? Are we willing to sacrifice the personal growth and sense of community that smaller independent teams cultivate?

Let us not lose sight of these important factors when deciding the structure of our beloved softball teams. I ask for your support to oppose the proposed D155 Softball Co-op Structure. Please help maintain the independence of our school softball teams, which in return will sustain the encouragement and development of our young athletes.

Sign this petition to stand with us in preserving the future of independent school softball teams and ensuring every young athlete has the chance to shine on the field.
