Oppose 8 Townhomes Proposed in Backyards of 3801 and 3803 Hanover Ave.
The Issue
Developers have applied for a special use permit (SUP) to build 8 townhomes in the backyards of 3801 and 3803 Hanover Avenue.
This may seem like a small project, but it sets a dangerous precedent. If left unchecked, this will allow anyone who resides in the City of Richmond to convert their backyards into high density housing.
We need to oppose this SUP and stop this precedent from being set. People buy their homes in neighborhoods, because they love the look, feel, and style of the area. They also have an expectation that zoning laws will be upheld and enforced by their representatives. This precedent will break that contract and allow any neighborhood to be radically altered by developers.
We cannot allow the short-term profits of a few developers, to outweigh the long-term investment of homeowners in the neighborhood.
