The Issue

The ocean and our natural surroundings have always played a significant role in our lives, and they remain a treasure we are committed to protecting. Unfortunately, the integrity of our environment and the quality of life for residents like us are now under threat.

The proposed 10-year extension for the Tourism Marketing District, known as "Visit Laguna Beach," poses significant concerns for our community. The continuous promotion and exposure of our delicate and small natural spaces have led to overcrowding, threatening the local wildlife, harming the environment, and compromising public safety.

Visitors flocking to our town in overwhelming numbers result in environmental degradation and strain on our small-town resources. Delicate ecosystems are disturbed, wildlife habitats damaged, and the overall character of our tranquil community is at risk of erosion. Beyond the environmental effects, the influx of visitors also raises safety concerns and disrupts the day-to-day life of residents. Yes tourism is a big part of our community, but this drag net approach of marketing has to stop.

We are proud of our town's natural beauty and appeal, but responsible tourism that respects Laguna Beach's ecological and cultural heritage must be our priority. The adoption of the 10-year contract without proper assessment and community consensus would only magnify the issues we're facing today. We stand for sustainable tourism that safeguards our town and its residents.

By signing this petition, you are sending a message to our local leaders to halt the proposed contract extension with Visit Laguna Beach. It is imperative that our leaders prioritize the community's voice, our environment, and the quality of life for those who call Laguna Beach home.

Join us in opposing this 10-year contract and supporting sustainable tourism practices that celebrate and protect the Laguna Beach we love. Please sign this petition to prevent further environmental harm and protect our community's future. Together, we can ensure that Laguna Beach remains a haven for both nature and respectful tourism.
