Today I will be meeting with Multnomah County Commissioner Lorette Smith. I will be presenting Commissioner Smith our Wapato Petition, its' 4,300 signatures, and over 1,400 comments. Commissioner Smith has been pushing the Board of Commissioners to publicly evaluate cost estimates and her Letter to the Editor appeared in the Portland Tribune in late August. See link. Commissioner Smith said in a recent interview..."We need to be offering up Wapato as an option in this conversation, even if it's on a temporary basis." Smith said...It's really hard for me to go ask a private-sector business to use one of their buildings when we have a building we're paying for, to sit empty every year, and we're not even putting that up as an option."
