It has been two weeks, and still only silence from the leadership at WDFW to our letter. Director Unsworth clearly and publicly stated that he is in favor of public oversight, yet says it's the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission (NWIFC) and the Treaty Tribes that oppose a small live video feed in the room. Now the Chair of the NWIFC has told us the issue belongs to WDFW! How long will the leadership of this state allow this finger pointing? Continuing to ignore and further marginalizing the largest sector of stakeholders in the State, YOU, the Citizen Sportsmen and women who pay the bills. We've sent this follow-up letter to Director Unsworth and CC'd Senator Pearson, Representative Pike, the CCA, PSA and many other supporters. Director Unsworth should be hearing from YOU as well. Let him know we are not going away, no matter how long he tries to ignore us. Director, We are writing to follow up on our letter dated 7 July, 2017 regarding the lack of public oversight in the WDFW/Tribal North of Falcon meetings. It has been two weeks since the Citizen Sportsmen and Women asked for clarification on your position that the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission's (NWIFC) objection is solely responsible for the public being barred from these meetings. As you’re aware, we are not asking for an “open door" policy, allowing everyone into these meetings. We understand that these negotiations are difficult at times, and sensitive to say the least. However, our request to have a small, live video feed camera in the room, broadcast on the public access channel, and posted to the WDFW website, unedited, certainly IS a reasonable request. Clearly, since you’ve publicly stated your support in having public oversight in these meetings, you must agree this is a reasonably solution. Now more than ever, the sportsmen and women of this state are losing our confidence in the co-management system and are growing suspicious of our leadership’s motives. Leaders who continue to refuse to even comment on the issue of locking the public and press out of these very important meetings. In light of the NWIFC Chair’s stated direction to “Take this to The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife” we have, and will continue to ask you, the Director, to answer to the stakeholders who are awaiting your explanation. Please, do not continue to marginalize the largest sector of stakeholders any longer. Do the right thing and allow the public a fair and equitable seat at the table by allowing us to view the proceedings of these negotiations. After all, if there is nothing to hide, then why keep locking the doors. A copy of this letter will be posted to our citizen petition so the more than four thousand signed supporters will be updated, as well as circulated throughout the state for all citizen sportsmen to view. Waiting your timely response. Washington Citizen Sportsmen Open WDFW/Tribal NOF Meetings
