Today, March 20, the House Intelligence Committee started hearings regarding major investigations which involve possible Russian collusion and our current President and his campaign. These proceedings are extremely serious and potentially damaging to some very important people. Also today, the first Tribal/WDFW North of Falcon meeting was held. Negotiations that center on dividing fish—a natural resource which is owned by all citizens of the state. As usual, the citizens of this State have no idea what took place in this meeting. What was the BIGGEST difference between the two meetings? THE HOUSE INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE’S HEARING ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!! How in the world does this make any sense to anyone associated with the North of Falcon process? How have the Tribes gained so much influence and power in this state that they are able to declare, “we don’t’ want the public involved”… and that’s the end of the story? The Tribes simply have to brand every single meeting as “Gov’t to Gov’t”, and the result prevents the public from knowing what’s involved! Why is it that no one in authority questions why? Why is it that no one makes the Tribes justify their overriding need to keep the information secret? It seems, quite simply, everyone just falls in line. American Citizens today saw in a public forum, hearings that revealed inconvenient facts and questionable actions which made some high ranking public officials embarrassed and uncomfortable. Fortunately our constitution finds it important for the people to be informed in an open forum, rather than allow individuals to close the doors to protect their image. Today, the CITIZENS OF THIS STATE were shut out of a meeting with public servants, on public property, negotiating a public resource. The door was shut and locked in YOUR FACE because the Tribes just said NO! So, we need to ask, who’s really running our fisheries?
