Open the median on Kathleen Road for safe access

Open the median on Kathleen Road for safe access
The Issue
Living in the KB Home, Ross Creek subdivision in Lakeland, FL, I've come to see firsthand how the current road setup significantly endangers residents. As it stands, turning left from Creek Haven Way onto Kathleen Road towards I-4 requires a dangerous maneuver. One must veer into the left lane, facing oncoming traffic, to make a U-turn at the crossing for the railroad tracks. This busy crossing often sees cars from the opposing side also attempting to travel south, making it a frequent site for accidents.
This issue is not only inconvenient but a pressing safety concern. Traffic on Kathleen Road is continuous and fast-moving, adding to the risk faced by drivers forced into risky U-turns or improper lane changes. Additionally, driving an 1/8 mile south to find a suitable U-turn point before being able to return north, increases travel time and congestion, particularly during peak hours.
The solution? We urgently need the city to open the median at Kathleen Road and Creek Haven Way. This change would allow residents a safer, direct route southbound, reducing the risk of accidents and allowing smoother traffic flow. By addressing this issue, the city can improve road safety for all, including those unfamiliar with the area who might not expect these precarious maneuvers.
Many community members have expressed similar concerns and have experienced or witnessed near-misses and accidents firsthand. By opening the median, Lakeland can demonstrate its commitment to protecting its residents and visitors. Please join me in urging the city officials to consider this vital road safety improvement. We need a solution that prioritizes the safety and efficiency of our community's transportation. Sign this petition and help make Lakeland's roads safer for everyone who travels them.
