University High School Charter recently introduced a phone ban, taking away student’s rights to use devices not issued by the school district. Even though the students were cooperative with the ban, the student body met multiple unnecessary downsides; for example, the closure of the Barrington gate, which was once open for entering and exiting the school.

The school administrators claim that they are not able to open the gate, but there seems to be no real reason for this unnecessary obstacle to leaving and entering the school.. This affects students, parents, and even teachers, because not only do students now have to walk across the 24 acre school to just unlock their phones and leave campus, but parents have to make inconvenient changes to where they park because of the heavy traffic to just pick up their children.

The process of leaving school is troubling because of the traffic caused by kids exiting all at once.  The school has also received offers from parents and teachers to help out by locking and unlocking phones, but they seem obtuse to the attempts to help, despite the good that they could provide.
