Open Our Homes for Foster Children

Open Our Homes for Foster Children
The Issue
We are calling on the Alabama Department of Human Resources to restore Kids to Love’s licensed foster families back into its statewide database, so those families can continue to serve children who need a home.
This summer, we learned that DHR froze Kids to Love's licensed foster homes in its state database, meaning social workers could not place children with any of those families who were licensed and waiting to welcome foster children into their homes.
DHR did not give a sufficient reason as to why those homes were frozen and did not even notify Kids to Love that those homes’ statuses were changed. Kids to Love is still licensed to operate, and a recent DHR audit of Kids to Love’s operations turned up zero deficiencies.
At a time when the number of children in foster care greatly outnumbers the number of homes available to take them in, Alabama DHR chose to leave children sleeping on the floor of DHR offices when there are caring, loving, licensed foster families available.
All Kids to Love wants is to be able to continue to serve children in foster care with the same outstanding service it has provided since 2004.
Sign this petition and tell Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey and Alabama DHR Commissioner Nancy Buckner to #OpenOurHomes for children who need them.
