The Issue

Hello, my name is Amber, and I am a resident of the Northcliffe community in Schertz, TX. My fiancé and I recently purchased a home here, drawn by the beauty of the area and the promise of nature-filled activities such as fishing, which we both adore. However, we quickly found out that despite having a stunning pond and walking trails within reach, residents like us are restricted from making use of them, as fishing in the Northcliffe Country Club pond is forbidden by law.

This situation seems counterproductive to the community spirit we wish to cultivate in Northcliffe. The pond and the adjoining walking paths, formerly part of the golf course, have the potential to become the heart of our community—a place where families and neighbors can gather, enjoy nature, and build connections.

To foster a more neighborly environment, I propose that the City of Schertz open the Northcliffe Country Club pond for fishing and allow residents to enjoy the walking paths freely. Such changes would not only enhance our quality of life but could also increase property values by making the area more appealing to potential buyers.

As a community, we have the power to maintain the cleanliness and beauty of these spaces. I am willing to organize monthly or bi-monthly cleanup events with fellow residents to ensure the area remains pristine and enjoyable for everyone.

Providing legal and safe access to these amenities will present numerous benefits: it encourages healthy outdoor activities, supports mental wellness by allowing people to connect with nature, and strengthens community ties as residents come together to enjoy these public spaces.

According to research, access to natural resources and green spaces significantly improves residents' happiness and community satisfaction. The Northcliffe pond and trails are untapped resources that, if properly utilized, could greatly enhance our neighborhood's quality of life.

I am calling on the City of Schertz and concerned citizens to re-evaluate the current restrictions and work with us to find a solution that benefits everyone. Please join me in advocating for a change that reflects the desires and needs of the Northcliffe community. Sign this petition to open the pond and trails for all to enjoy!
