Cape Coral is rebuilding from Hurricane Ian, yet falling far behind the surrounding communities.  As Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel and Captiva begin to open beaches for residents, Cape Coral’s small sliver of sand along the Caloosahatchie River remains closed.  Cape Coral’s “Yacht Club Beach” was a fixture of the community.  Residents and visitors gathered here daily to enjoy the sun, sand and evening sunsets.  4 months later, this area remains closed to the public while adjacent area beaches much larger and far more devastated by the storm have already opened.  It’s time the Cape Coral Beach is restored and reopened to the public with the same urgency as surrounding beaches.
