Open a Pound Bakery in Nottingham City Centre - Greggs has gone too far!
The Issue
For the past few years, Greggs has been dominating the pastries market in Nottingham, with practically one around every Street corner. We have been constantly shafted by the rise in price of sausage rolls, cheese toasties and much more. A lot of our city's workers who have early morning shifts grab a bacon butty, but less have appeared due to the increase in pricing. Even the Too Good To Go system that Bulwell's Greggs has opened is not enough to justify the heavy damage Greggs is doing to our pastry economy in the heart of Nottingham.
Our city as a whole is being overrun by these monopolies, and combined with the Cost Of Living Crisis, the people of Nottingham are running out of options for a simple warm meal. If our city continued to be dominated by Greggs, local businesses will cease to exist such as Project Pies, The Pudding Pantry, just to name a few. People will be unable to afford warm pastry products and will have to resort to an unhealthy diet.
Recently, Mansfield and Derby have welcomed an alternative; an underdog known as Pound Bakery, who aim to serve high-quality and affordable warm pastries to the local community. I think Nottingham City should follow this trend. Doing so will increase tourism on the consumer side, and competition in the pastry market on the business side.
I know that this will not be an easy fight. But opening a Pound Bakery will be beneficial to the local community and the city of Nottingham as a whole.
