Open a local gym in Lusby, Maryland
The Issue
My name is Justine Willey, a resident of Lusby, Maryland, for over a decade. I have always believed in the power of fitness and community, and now more than ever, I see a crucial gap in our neighborhood that needs to be addressed—a lack of a local gym.
In Lusby, the options for a quality workout or a comprehensive fitness program involve either traveling long distances to neighboring towns or attempting to convert part of our homes into makeshift workout spaces. This lack of a local facility doesn't just affect fitness enthusiasts, it impacts everyone—from the elderly who might benefit immensely from a senior-friendly exercise space to children whose extracurricular activities could include fitness if a local gym was available.
Statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) underscore the necessity of regular physical activity for maintaining good health. Unfortunately, Lusby residents face a barrier to accessing this critical element of a healthy lifestyle due to the absence of a local gym. With the nearest facilities over 30 minutes away, it's inconvenient and environmentally unfriendly for residents to commute regularly.
A local gym could alleviate these issues, offering a hub for physical activity, community engagement, and healthier living. Moreover, it would provide local jobs, stimulate our local economy, and reinforce Lusby's commitment to the wellbeing of its residents.
We are calling on local businesses, the county government, and potential investors to consider the significant positive impact a gym would have in our community. We propose developing a multi-purpose fitness center that can accommodate a range of activities including but not limited to cardio and weightlifting to group exercises.
I personally think a perfect location for said gym, would be right in solomons where the old True Value store used to be. It's convient not only for Solomons residents, but also families who live 10 minutes or even 15 minutes from the area.
