Open a homicide investigation into Jacqueline Beaubien's case
The Issue
Jacqueline Beaubien was a daughter, friend, and cherished community member whose untimely disappearance and death has left a gaping hole in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her family and friends have tirelessly sought the truth, only to be met with silence and unanswered questions. The circumstances surrounding Jacqueline's case are deeply troubling, and yet, the investigation seems incomplete. It's time for us to demand answers and see that justice is served.
Jacqueline's disappearance sent shockwaves through our community. On about May 16, she was last seen by Steven Liu, and her remains were tragically discovered in front of her own residence, as rumors indicate. Despite these unsettling circumstances, her case has not been approached with the urgency it so desperately deserves. Evidence has surfaced suggesting foul play, including most notably Jacqueline a/k/a Jax's public tweets and the alleged conduct of Chris Cortez a/k/a Chris Cortez and public tweets byAlia Janine Therefore, a homicide investigation into her death is not only warranted but necessary to bring closure and justice.
The need for a thorough investigation is underscored by the alarming statistics surrounding unsolved cases of missing and murdered individuals. According to general statistics, less than a considerable number of such cases are resolved within the first year. This reality highlights a systemic issue – one where cases like Jacqueline's risk becoming mere numbers in a growing backlog. But Jacqueline is more than just a number; she is our loved one, and her story deserves a full and unbiased investigation.
Therefore, we the Undersigned, demand a homicide investigation of Jacqueline Beaubien a/k/a Jax Dell'Osso in the following address.
September 23, 2026
Dear Mayor Zohran Mamdani,
We are writing to ask you to use your authority to ensure that the New York City Police Department conducts a thorough, independent investigation into the death of comedian and chef Jax Dell’Osso, including investigating her death as a potential homicide.
Jax Dell’Osso died on May 17, 2023. Her death has never received the level of public investigative scrutiny that the circumstances appear to warrant. We are asking not that the NYPD prejudge the cause of her death, but that it reopen and properly investigate the circumstances surrounding it, preserve and examine the available evidence, and determine whether a criminal act occurred.
There are several circumstances that, taken together, warrant renewed scrutiny.
In January 2023, Jax publicly sought emergency financial assistance through a GoFundMe campaign after experiencing unemployment and financial hardship.
In the days immediately preceding her death, there were reports and online accounts raising questions about a possible ingestion or poisoning. Some accounts have referred to possible antifreeze ingestion, while others have raised questions about 2C-B or another substance. We recognize that these claims are not established facts and that they require verification rather than repetition as fact.
On May 17, 2023, Jax made a series of alarming posts on Twitter/X between approximately 2:55 a.m. and 10:24 a.m. In those posts, she made serious allegations concerning her family, her former partner, Chris Cortez, and other individuals.
Chris Cortez a/k/a Chris Cortes along with Jax’s close friend Alia Janine, who has publicly talked about being the daughter of a hitman, are being accused by many online. They hosted a private memorial at The Stand NYC Comedy Club in the East Village.
In the hours and days leading to her death, Jax was crying out for help online. A call for help which was never answered.
We, the people, demand a thorough investigation by the NYPD, including a public status report on the Internal Affairs (IA) complaint which was forwarded by the City’s CCRB.
On or about May 17, Jax alleged abuse and criminal conduct, including sexual abuse and strangulation, and raised allegations of a broader conspiracy involving child sexual abuse. Those allegations should be treated as allegations requiring investigation, not as established facts.
At approximately 3:35 a.m., Jax reportedly posted that someone was in her backyard.
At approximately 9:55 a.m., she posted a photograph involving Mr. Cortez.
Then, at approximately 10:24 a.m., Jax posted what appears to have been her final tweet:
“My ID has gone missing. It’s over for me.”
The date of death is listed as May 17, 2023 by the funeral-home information that has circulated publicly.
The public demands answers, with over 8 million people having viewed Jax’s final pleas for help. https://twitter.com/jaxdellosso
A Twitter/X account dedicated to finding Jax was created on May 18, 2023, and friends began publicly announcing her death on May 19. https://twitter.com/FINDJAXNYC
The circumstances surrounding the period in which she was reported missing, and the transition from a missing-person situation to a reported death, deserve careful reconstruction through police records, emergency-call records, witness interviews, surveillance footage, phone records, social-media records, and other available evidence.
We are also concerned about the distinction between the medical examiner's determination and the police investigation. My understanding is that the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner performed an autopsy and ultimately classified the death as a suicide, while reports circulating publicly have stated that substances including 2C-B and diphenhydramine (Benadryl) were detected. If those toxicology findings and the circumstances of death are accurately reported, they should be independently reviewed in light of the entire factual record. Many rumors surround her death, and her family who are unwilling to talk to the public, deny any foul play.
The existence of a medical-examiner determination of suicide should not, by itself, prevent law enforcement from examining whether the circumstances surrounding the death were consistent with that conclusion or whether evidence of third-party involvement was adequately investigated.
We are particularly asking for an examination of whether the NYPD followed its own procedures governing deaths and suspicious or unusual circumstances. The NYPD's publicly available Patrol Guide states that when officers encounter an apparently dead person, they are required to assess the circumstances, preserve the scene, obtain witness information, and involve detectives when a death is suspicious; the guide also provides for notification of the Medical Examiner and appropriate reporting of unusual deaths.
We therefore respectfully request:
That the NYPD conduct a new, documented review of Jax Dell’Osso's death as a potential homicide or otherwise suspicious death, without presupposing the ultimate cause.
That the Department determine whether all required NYPD reports—including any required Unusual Occurrence Report—were completed in accordance with the Patrol Guide and directives in effect in May 2023.
That investigators review the original scene investigation, 911 calls, NYPD incident records, Medical Examiner records, toxicology, photographs, surveillance footage, witness statements, phone records, and digital evidence.
That investigators reconstruct Jax's movements and communications during the final days and hours of her life.
That the allegations Jax made publicly immediately before her death be preserved and investigated to the extent they constitute potentially relevant evidence.
That investigators identify and interview witnesses who may have had information about Jax's disappearance, death, relationships, residence, or final hours.
That the Department determine whether any evidence was overlooked, improperly classified, lost, or never collected.
That the NYPD provide an explanation of what investigative steps were actually taken in 2023 and whether those steps complied with Department policy.
That, if the NYPD determines that its original investigation was deficient, the matter be assigned to investigators who were not involved in the original handling of the case.
We are not asking the City to declare a homicide without evidence. We are asking the City to ensure that the possibility of homicide is not dismissed without a genuinely thorough investigation.
Jax was a New Yorker, a comedian, a chef, and a person whose life mattered. Her final public communications raise questions that deserve answers.
If the evidence ultimately confirms that she died by suicide, a transparent and properly documented investigation would help establish that conclusion. If the evidence points elsewhere, the City has a responsibility to follow it.
Please ensure that Jax Dell’Osso's death receives the serious investigative review that these circumstances warrant.
Respectfully,
the Undersigned,
Note:
Beyond the personal impact, this case also underscores a vital issue within our justice system where families are left without answers or the support they need. As a society, we must not allow ourselves to become complacent when our system fails us. We have the power to demand action and accountability.
We call upon local and state agencies, in addition to the Mayor, to reopen Jacqueline Beaubien's case as a homicide investigation, utilizing all resources available to uncover the truth. We urge you to consider new evidence and leads, to employ advanced investigative techniques, and to communicate transparently with her family throughout this process. Furthermore, we implore our community leaders to stand with us in seeking justice for Jacqueline and to advocate for changes that ensure all victims receive the efforts owed to them by our justice system.
NYPD Sgt. Thomas Fiorella of Bensonhurst, in addition to other officers have been contact in connection to this matter. No reports exist on her suspicious death.
DCPI has confirmed no reports exist on her death.
Her death was officially ruled a suicide by the OCME, but we argue the NYPD never conducted a thorough investigation, nor an investigation period.
Your signature on this petition represents a collective voice demanding that Jacqueline Beaubien's case be taken seriously. Help us shine a light on her story and push for the justice she so rightly deserves.
Please join us in urging the authorities to act and help us bring justice for Jacqueline by signing this petition today.
