Ontario Media: Voters deserve fair debates

Ontario taxpayers pay millions of dollars to four political parties every year through per-vote funding: the Liberals, Progressive Conservatives, NDP and the Green Party. Voters and taxpayers deserve to hold all four of these political parties accountable.
Yet the televised leaders’ debates, which serve as the main opportunity for voters to hear, compare, and contrast what these political parties have to offer, tend to only include three parties. This decision is made by media broadcasters, in consultation with the three largest parties.
While there are twenty one registered parties in Ontario, only four of them have met the requirements set by Elections Ontario to qualify for the public subsidy. And all four of those parties run candidates in every single Ontario riding.
We're calling on Ontario's broadcasters to support a fair and simple rule: That the leader of any political party that receives annual taxpayer funding should be included in the televised debates.
