Given the recent rash of cycling deaths and non-fatal collisions with cars, we need to get the provincial government to bring in a Vulnerable Road User Law (VRU). It holds reckless and negligent motorists responsible for their actions. A VRU makes motorists that injure or kill cyclists or pedestrians more legally responsible than current laws on the books. The onus is on them to prove that they were driving responsibly. Currently, most drivers charged just send their lawyers to court, don't see their victims and just pay the fine.  A VRU forces convicted motorists to actually have to attend court, hear the damages they've caused, and face the victims if they are still living or able to physically attend.
