Stop the Amherstburg Police Services Takeover
0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,500!
A vast majority of the taxpayers in the Town of Amherstburg have openly expressed opposition to the proposed take over to the Amherstburg Police Services by the City of Windsor.
Despite the very vocal public display of opposition, Amherstburg's council members are still forging forward with the process. Because the arrangement violates the Police Services Act, in that the two regions are not contiguous, the agreement requires special exception from the Ontario Civilian Police Commission. It seems there is only one means to stop this, and that will be this plea to the OCPC, who will ultimately hold the final decision to allow the takeover to happen. This exception to s. 5 (1) (6) rule of the Police Services Act has only been approved one other time with a service of a much smaller size to the town of St. Mary's.
This petition will be presented to the Commission upon the submission of an application from Windsor/Amherstburg. In submitting the petition we are asking that the commission decline the application, which will stop the process in it's tracks.
