Remove the #NewMacDonald video from website and marketing campaign.
The Issue
Only Organic, a marketing conglomerate of several well-known organic food companies like Stonyfield, Nature’s Path, and Annie’s Homegrown, recently launched an attack campaign on conventional farmers called #NewMacDonald. The campaign is meant to spread fear, lies and hate about conventional agriculture in order to sell organic products. The campaign’s video uses a musical performance by elementary school children that Only Organic claims provides a “better understanding of what being organic really means and the environmental and health benefits choosing organic provides.” What Only Organics’ video actually does is disparage conventional agriculture by making false allegations that hard-working farmers use unsafe levels of pesticides, pump their livestock full of hormones, and mistreat or hurt their livestock. Worse yet, Only Organic is using children to sell this tasteless message.
Despite calls by conventional and organic farmers, Only Organic and its companies have stood by the video and refuse to acknowledge that it is divisive, dishonest, and tactless. Only Organic claims its overarching goal is “devoted to telling the story of organic agriculture and food production with the hope of instilling the peace of mind that going organic gives.” In reality, this group is intentionally scaring consumers about safe products in order to sell their own products, which speaks volumes about the integrity of Only Organic and its companies.
Only Organic's #NewMacDonald video is nothing more than a fear-mongering attack ad on hard working farm families. #NewMacDonald implies that there is something inherently wrong with conventional farming practices, when science and research have consistently demonstrated there is nothing for consumers to fear: conventional products are just as safe, healthy, and nutritious as organic products, and new modern farming methods are more environmentally-friendly than ever. Conventional farmers, just like their organic counterparts, care about the environment, are dedicated to producing safe and nutritious food, and engage in good animal husbandry.
Sign this petition to tell Only Organic to pull the video from its website and stop the divisive, shameful marketing campaign that has no part in modern agricultural marketing.
