Online Learning: Limit homework from elective classes

The Issue

The problem that most students are facing at the moment is the difficulty of online learning. We legit have the COVID-19 pandemic changing peoples lives right before our eyes. This pandemic has really affected many, and simply enough; "Why assign so much homework in the middle of a national disaster?" It just doesn't make any sense. I am not claiming that online classes are useless and should be taken out entirely, but I am simply offering a compromise. I propose that elective classes (that does not follow the A-G requirement for college) should not give students with hours and hours of homework. Even better, make it optional, make it extra credit for those who want to bring their grades up. EGUSD needs to pass a legislation to enact such a rule. As a Senior myself, I already feel frustrated; such as canceled Prom, multicultural rallies, postponed graduations, etc.  A lot of people simply don't have the luxury to do hours of homework, ie. taking care of grandparents/parents/siblings, many have jobs currently to provide for their families, or in dire situations that they can't go online and do their homework properly. We certainly do appreciate the effort that our teachers put into our online Google Classrooms, for us to try and learn new stuff, but it is simply not the same as person to person contact. As Seniors, we only had TWO months before we graduate. TWO months! I understand that teachers must give us finals and prep us for AP exams, but the teachers giving us hours and hours of homework that majority of students will not even bother to do it because they are simply unmotivated.  I also propose that teachers in the EGUSD district should give out reasonable amounts of homework per week, based on the difficulty and purpose of such class, whether it may be an AP class (which giving hours of homework makes A LOT of sense because it's a CORE class!) or a non core class (ex. Physiology, Ecology, Ceramics, Photography, Digital Arts, You can even insert in AVID as well!, etc.,which means giving less homework or even no homework at all makes sense since it's not a "core" class.)

These changes will really help a lot of students to try and go through these chaotic times, and ease the stress of many students (who are susceptible to depression and other types of mental health disorders). I wish the people who are in charge can see this and hear our voices.
